The promises of the ‘Blue Economy’ have opened up a variety of avenues for external powers to use the rhetoric for sustainable development to exploit the markets and resources of our Pacific. Using the enabling mechanisms of free trade agreements, infrastructure, aid, debt, and ocean governance the Blue Economy targets key resources such as extractive industries (seabed mining), fisheries, genetic resources amongst others We cover these issues in our research, advocacy and information sharing to bring Pacific peoples voices directly to the negotiating table.
